This album is a true gem. It has been rightly called the children's version of Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?. If you have read the Little House books (and we highly recommend you do), you know how important music and Pa's fiddle playing were to Laura. Pa's fiddle was carefully transported from Wisconsin to Kansas, Minnesota, and the Dakotas and was often the only light in a long, cold winter.
Laura Ingalls Wilder's books reference 126 different songs, and each book is filled with the lyrics of beautiful American songs, many of which have been lost to history.
This one of a kind collection rescues 18 of these lovely songs and presents them as Laura may have heard them, complete with plenty of fiddling. Contributing musicians include Riders in the Sky, Dave Olney, Andrea Zonn, Pat Enright, Doug Green, Butch Baldassari, Keith Little, Deborah Packard, John Mock, Jep Bisbee and The Princely Players, most centered around Nashville, Tennessee, where the album was recorded.
Truly a lovely CD. Pa would be pleased!
