This really is home made--You can make it in your own home free of charge!
Why buy play dough when this is so easy? Take 15 minutes to whip it up, then read the paper and drink some tea while your children spend the rest of the afternoon playing with warm dough. Best of all--this is exactly like the stuff sold in stores without the commercial tie-ins, preservatives, and other icky stuff!
This recipe is adapted from the book Feed Me, I'm Yours, which we carry in our store. It has lots of great recipes for feeding kids, along with lots of fun stuff like this.
So, here it is. Kids--this recipe requires adult supervision. (duh!) Enjoy!
Playdough
Combine in small pot:
1 Cup Flour
1/4 Cup Salt
2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
Add:
1 Cup Water
1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
Stir till combined, then add:
20-30 drops food coloring
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for about 3-5 minutes. Will be very gloppy and messy as it cooks, but will eventually pull into a ball in the pan. Turn out and knead briefly as soon as cool enough to touch. Store in airtight container. Will eventually get moldy, but lasts several months.
