The object of Hoot Owl Hoot! is to work together to move all the owls to the nest before the sun rises. Because Hoot Owl Hoot! is a cooperative game, players can play any of the owls-- no one player has a single owl she is trying to get back to the nest. Players keep their cards face up in front of them so they can work together to strategize how to move.
If a player has a sun card she must discard the sun and move the sun token 1 space up. If she has all color cards she discards any 1 color card and then moves any owl to the next open space of that color. If an owl flies over an owl on a space of that color on its way to the next open space, all players make a hooting sound! The game can be made more challenging by adding up to 6 owl tokens.
The basic game is easy for first time players and can be made much more challenging simply by adding more owl tokens into the game. This allows the game to age with the child or for older kids (or adults!) to play with younger kids. Like in Candyland, kids practice color recognition and moving tokens. Unlike Candyland, Hoot Owl Hoot is a cooperative game, meaning all players are playing for the same outcome together (no more ending a game in tears!). Ages 4+, 2-4 players. Plays in 15 minutes. No reading required. Printed in China.
